About Crust Bakeshop
Crust Bakeshop is a bakery, café, and restaurant dedicated to crafting artisan breads, pastries, and thoughtfully prepared sandwiches made with simple, high-quality ingredients. Founded on a love for baking and a passion for community, Crust has become a staple in Worcester, where locals gather for fresh-baked goods, great coffee, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
Our Story
Crust Bakeshop’s journey began with Alexis, a Worcester native who grew up working at her family’s business, George’s Coney Island Hot Dogs, a city institution since 1918. Her love for food led her to Wellesley College and later to the New England Culinary Institute (NECI) in Montpelier, Vermont, where she honed her baking skills. She gained experience in Charlottesville, VA, and Boston, MA before returning to Worcester and joining the team at Crust.
After three years as an employee, Alexis purchased Crust in January 2017, turning her passion for artisan baking into a business of her own. Around the same time, she met Nate, a sous chef whose love for food matched her own. Their shared passion for great bread (and each other) led them to open North Main Provisions—a wine, cheese, and specialty foods shop—next door to Crust later that year.
Our Philosophy
At Crust Bakeshop, we believe in scratch baking, real ingredients, and time-honored techniques. Our breads and pastries are crafted with care, our coffee is brewed to perfection, and every item on our menu is made to bring people together over good food.

Growth & Expansion
Since taking ownership, Alexis and Nate have expanded Crust Bakeshop to serve more of the Worcester community:
2017 – Opened North Main Provisions, a specialty wine, cheese, and provisions shop next to Crust.
2021 – Opened a second Crust Bakeshop location at 1 West Boylston Street, Worcester.
2021 - Expanded Crust Main into North Main Provisions.
2022 –Purchased Birch Tree Bread Company, further growing their bakery and café offerings while offering an expanded breakfast, lunch, dinner, full-bar, and pizza menu
